Adviser to the Administrator reviews the draft sports policy presented by Director Sports
Chandigarh (Aditi) Sh. Dharam Pal, Adviser to the Administrator reviewed the draft sports policy presented by Director Sports, Sh. Sorabh Kumar Arora today. The Sports Policy is drafted with a vision of promoting comprehensive Sports Culture & Physical Literacy, right from the school level in line with Government’s aim to shine Chandigarh on the National and Global Sports Map. The thrust of policy is to create futuristic sports facilities in tune with evolving times, while at the same time augmenting the existing facilities to bring them at par with latest sports techniques and standards.
The policy highlights important aspects like cash awards, scholarships for eligible sportspersons of Chandigarh securing laurels for country at national and international stage. Apart from sportspersons, the policy also pays special focus on the coaches. Be it giving cash awards or providing training, the coaches will be catered in every aspect.
The proposed sports policy also focuses on quick and timely rehabilitation of injured sports persons. State of the art Sports Injury and Rehabilitation Centre is also on card that would comprise modern technologies and techniques in vogue to ensure the players do not lag behind in any respect while preparing for national and international level competitions.
Under this policy, feasibility will also be explored to provide insurance to active sportspersons in all kinds of sports injuries picked up by the athlete while playing or practice.
The Sports Department underpins realisation of their vision to contribute further in Chandigarh’s enduring appeal as most liveable city in the country especially by accentuating City’s sports prestige and by propagating ‘Right to Sport’ for all inhabitants of ‘City Beautiful’.
After detailed deliberations and discussions, some changes have been suggested by the Adviser to the Administrator. The draft policy after the incorporating these changes will be presented to Administrator UT Chandigarh which will be further placed in the public forum for suggestions and feedback.
