Application to AG Punjab for permission to file criminal contempt

Chandigarh-July 17th-Punjab & Haryana Highcourt Lawyer sends an application to Advocate General, Punjab, seeking permission for filing a Criminal Contempt Petition against two SSPs (Mansa/Fatehgarh Sahbib) and two Punjabi Singers:

Advocate H.C. Arora filed an application under Section 15 of the Contempt of Courts Act, with AG, Punjab about a fortnight ago (29.6.2020) seeking permission for filing a Criminal Contempt Petition against two SSPs (Mansa/Fatehgarh Sahbib) and two Punjabi singers, for interfering in judicial process. He has stated in the application that two Punjabi singers, namely (i) Sidhu Mussewala; and (ii) Mankirt Aulalkh, who are facing criminal proceedings, after registration of FIRs against them, for singing songs which promote violence, are being used by the two SSPs, as brand ambassadors of Police of Mansa and Fatehgarh Sahbi districts which amounts to pampering and protecting the accused persons, at a time when investigations into the FIRs are continuing against them, and such conduct of the superiors sends a clear message to the Investigation Officers that the two accused singers are quite close to the two SSPs. Thus, the four respondents are interfering in the judicial and criminal proceedings.

Arora is yet to receive a response from the A.G. Punjab. Under the provisions of Contempt of Courts Act, a petition for Criminal Contempt can be filed in the High Court only after approval from Advocate General of concerned State.
