Apoeal for respecting Akal Takht's call for a consensus panthic candidate in Sangrur Lok Sabha bypoll
Chandigarh (Gurpreet) - Shiromani Akali Dal president Sardar Sukhbir Singh Badal accompanied by senior leaders of his party called on the SAD (Amritsar) leader Sardar Simranjit Singh Mann here (Sangrur) this evening and made a fervent appeal to him to honour Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh Ji's call for putting up a consensus Panthic candidate from among the family members of Bandi Singhs in the forthcoming Sangrur Lok Sabha by poll to help secure the release of "all bandi Singhs” in different jails across the country .
The meeting lasted for nearly an hour.
Later, briefing news persons alongside Sardar Badal , Sardar Mann and other Akali leaders including S. Balwinder Singh Bhunder and Prof Preslm Singh Chandumajra outside Sardar Mann’s residence, SGPC chief Prof Harjinder Singh Dhammi said that Sardar Mann had assured them that he would place the matter before senior colleagues from his party to positively consider the proposal for a common Panthic candidate to carry forward the same fight for achieving the goal of securing release of Sikh prisoners languishing in jails well beyond the expiry of their respective jail terms.
S Badal and other Akali leaders urged S Mann to play a positive and leading role in re-enacting the saga of his own release through an electoral verdict.
S Badal emphasised the need to respond to the call of several panthic bodies for putting up someone from among the family members of the Bandi Singhs.
A final decision to this effect is likely tomorrow.
