Chandigarh: A delegation of senior BJP leaders led by BJP Punjab State President Sunil Jakhar met Punjab Governor Hon'ble Banwari lal Purohit at his residence on Thursday and handed over a demand letter to the Hon'ble Governor giving detailed information about the flood situation in almost all the districts of Punjab and the problems being faced by the people due to the neglect of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. On this occasion Sunil Jakhar along with Kewal Singh Dhillon, Lakhwinder Kaur Garcha, Parminder Brar, Gurpreet Singh Kangad, Arvind Khanna, Balbir Sidhu, Amanjot Kaur Ramuwalia, Jaindra Kaur, Dr. Subhash Sharma, Rakesh Rathore, Raj Kumar Verka etc. were included in the delegation.
The letter of demand submitted by Mr. Sunil Jakhar to the Honorable Governor is attached below.
Respected Governor Shri Banwarilal Purohit Ji.
I am writing to you to express my deep anguish and pain at the hapless situation of crores of Punjabis who have been left to fend for themselves by this grossly inept, incompetent and callous regime while their houses and fields are inundated by flood waters. The misery and hardship being endured by Punjabis is partly of this government's own making, which is still in deep slumber and refuses to learn any lesson for plunging the state into one mess to another.
The fact that as per latest reports, majority of districts of state are still badly affected by floods lays bare any claim of planning on Sh. Bhagwant Mann led dispensation. That the Chief Minister did not even care to hold a customary flood preparation review meeting of his senior officers - a Standard Operating Procedure done well before the onset of Monsoon every year - and his administration kept itself completely insulated from all alerts being issued by the Indian Meterological Department (IMD) amounts to abdication of its responsibility towards people of Punjab.
As if this was not enough, the arrogance and power drunk MLAs of ruling dispensation have taken upon themselves to heap more misery on people of Punjab by impeding any likely effort of financial and material help reaching the needy in time. It is unimaginable that Revenue Department officials have been forced to strike work at a time when flood ravaged farmers are to be given monetary assistance after completion of Girdawari. Our of sheer arrogance on its part, this government till now has not made any effort whatsoever to reprimand its MLAs for their errant and irresponsible conduct. The government it seems has no time to come to rescue of those impacted by floods and have lost their crops and houses. To compound this mess, the DC offices staff - nodal agency for executing relief measures- have joined this strike. One can only imagine the state of affairs of this government while the CM leads his Ministers in well curated photo ops, which have now crossed all limits of insensitivity at this grave hour.
Sir, I am sure you would appreciate my serious concern in right earnest as you have personally witnessed the situation on ground by visiting flood affected areas.
I, therefore, have approached you to question this government on first plunging the state into disarray because of lack of foresight and planning; and at the same time ensure that this regime realises its responsibility of safeguarding people on ground. I also urge you to force this regime to ensure that immediate interim relief reaches to all those impacted including our Anndatas-the farmers , small household owners and shopkeepers in rural as well as urban pockets of our state. Millions have lost livelihood and need urgent assistance and medical help. Sensing the emergency, Central Government has already provided enough funds by waiving off required clauses but this government is deliberately sitting over this money which can save lives.
Sir, there are reports of likelihood of water-borne diseases already breaking out in certain areas, which must be addressed immediately with enough medical supplies and services.
I once again request you to use your good office to force this government to fulfil its constitutional duty and be answerable to people of Punjab.
State President BJP President, Punjab
