Campus Placement of 15 Special Students of GRIID

The Government Rehabilitation Institute for Intellectual Disabilities (GRIID), Chandigarh is a premier institute in the North India, which is providing comprehensive health and educational facilities to more than 450 special children with intellectual disability, autism, cerebral palsy and multiple disabilities. The medical team consists of child specialist, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, yoga instructors, clinical psychologists and music teacher. GRIID has one of the best vocational centre for training of children with intellectual disability in house facility of assessment of degree of disability, issuing disability certificates, guardianship, railway concession, income tax rebate and local travel certificates and is helping large number of families.

GRIID was making all out efforts for rehabilitation of the Special Student in the Society for their dignified living and self-respect. In this process suitable students from GRIID were shortlisted for employment followed by counselling of guardians, physical and medical assessments and job readiness skill training. With the co-ordinated efforts of Ms. Anisha, Special Educator (DMR/DVTE-MR) and Ms. Gurpreet Kaur, HR Head, fifteen (15) Special Students of GRIID Chandigarh, succeeded to get job placement with M/s Swaraj Engines limited, Mohali.

This is the first time that such a big number of such students got Industrial placement. Presently they are undergoing an on the job training programme for 21 days. Initially, they shall be paid Rs.8,800/- (per month) in hand with benefits like food with intermediate snacks, transportation, uniform, safety shoes, caps etc. along with benefits of EPF, ESI and Medical Insurance coverage of Rs.1.00 Lac.

The Special Students who got placement are Ms. Priya Saini, Mr. Jaspreet Singh, Mr. Mirdul, Mr. Ambrish, Mr. Jyotik, Mr. Rahul, Mr. Naveen, Mr. Himanshu, Mr. Gurjanr, Mr. Rohit, Mr. Yogesh, Mr. Abhishek, Mr. Manoj, Ms. Damyanti, Mr. Vicky.

Director GRIID, Dr.Jasbinder Kaur shared that it became a possibility because of the indulgence of Mr. Jagan Kurian, Director and CEO of M/s Swaraj Engines limited, Mohali as a step towards social inclusion of these children.

The Secretary, Medical Education & Research, UT Chandigarh, Mr.Yashpal Garg, appreciated the efforts of GRIID in this regard and expressed gratitude to M/s Swaraj Engines Limited Mohali for their wonderful initiative. He said that it will bring a cheer in the family of these special students and will contribute in the society. He has also requested that other Entrepreneurs should also come forward withsimilar type of noble initiatives.
