CELEBRATIONS OF WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY 2023 HIGHLIGHTING THE THEME "SOLUTION TO PLASTIC POLLUTION"

5th June is celebrated as World Environment Day throughout the world to encourage everyone to do their part to protect the environment. The year 2023 is marked the 50th edition of World Environment Day, which is celebrated under the theme “Solutions to Plastic Pollution”. This day is a reminder that people’s actions on plastic pollution matters. The steps governments and businesses are taking to tackle plastic pollution are the consequence of this action.
Chandigarh Pollution Control Committee celebrated this 50th Anniversary of World Environment Day today in the Paryavaran Bhawan by taking an oath by all the officers/officials of the various Department run in Paryavaran Bhawan to take all possible changes in their daily life to protect the environment and motivate their family and friends to adopt environmental friendly habits.
Thereafter under the administrative guidance of Sh. Nitin Kumar Yadav, IAS, Chairman,a tableau depicting the theme of World Environment Day i.e. Solution to Plastic Pollution was flagged off by the Member Secretary of Chandigarh Pollution Control Committee. In his address to the staff members, Member Secretary put stress on behavioural change among every citizen w.r.t. Mission Life. The tableau run on the major places of Chandigarh which attracted and educated the people regarding the ill effects of plastic pollution and made them aware about the alternatives of the Plastic in our day to day life. The tableau visited many prominent places of Chandigarh which includes Sukhna Lake, Rock Garden, PGI-OPD, GMSH-16, Rose Garden, ISBT-17, ISBT-43, GMCH-32, Railway Station, Grain Market-16, Paryavaran Bhawan and Tagore Theatre, Chandigarh.
The ultimate goal of this little step is to accelerate this action of adopting Sustainable Lifestyle for Environment and transition to a circular economy. It is time to #BeatPlasticPollution.
At the end tableau was displayed at Tagore Theatre, Chandigarh where Chandigarh Administration celebrated World Environment Day to aware the general public especially school children for inspiring a positive change among them.
