Amritsar, (Global News) Senior BJP leader and Punjab Core Committee Member Mr Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina hailed party’s national General Secretary Tarun Chugh for taking up the issue of re-building of the Reigo Bridge in the heart of `holy city’ with Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav. The Minister has okayed the projects worth Rs.112 crores for the state of Punjab which include Rs.50 lakhs for the Reigo bridge’s reconstruction which will benefit the city residents.
“The project was long pending and thanks to Tarun Chugh who requested the Union Minister for the financial package the work would now start soon. This project, linking the old and the new city areas, will be a boon for the city residents. The various NGOs and residents had been demanding reconstruction of the bridge as it lies in a dilapidated condition”, said Mr.Chhina.
The bridge, he said, was built during British times in the 1860s to connect the old historical walled city to new areas coming up. Now that it had been closed for the traffic there were huge traffic jams and snarls, making life miserable. “But now the money has been sanctioned and within the financial year the work will be completed”, said Mr. Chhina added that the Punjab government and Municipal Corporation is not contributing even a penny and all money will be released by the Railway Ministry.
