Compensation granted to deaf, dumb, differentlyabled minor girl in National Lok Adalat
Fatehgarh Sahib (Global News) : Under the aegis of National Legal Services Authority and as per the directions of Punjab State Legal Services Authority, a Natinal Lok Adalat was organised at Sessions Division, Fatehgarh Sahib on 12.12.2020 in which a total number of 13
Benches were constituted, in which various cases viz. MACT, Section 138 NI Act,
Criminal Compoundable cases, traffic challans etc. were taken up and disposed off.
In the National Lok Adalat, compensation was also granted to the victims of sexual offence cases as per the Punjab Victim Compensation Scheme 2017 and NALSA Compensation Scheme for Women Victims/Survivors of Sexual Assault/other Crimes 2018.

Secretary DLSA while handing over requisite letters to the concerned
victims/guardians elaborated that a sum of Rs.5,43,000/- has been granted as
compensation to the victims of sexual offence cases. They further highlighted that
out of Rs.5,43,000/- , a sum of Rs.2,00,000/- was granted as compensation to a
victim of sexual offence case who was a minor, deaf, dumb and differently abled
girl, though the trial of the main case had abated due to the death of the accused.
Despite the pandemic COVID-19 the Lok Adalat was a resounding
success as 2400 traffic challans were disposed off. A total number of 1431 cases
were taken up for settlement out of which 1177 number of cases were amicably
settled for a total amount of Rs.10.32 crores. The litigants as well as lawyers
actively participated in the Lok Adalat.
COVID-19 protocols viz. Thermal scanning, wearing of face shields,
use of hand sanitizers and social distancing were also observed
