Death of Corona Warriors-Inter-State barriers of Punjab with other States entitled to compensation
Chandigarh(Aditi)-“ Government Computer Faculties of PICTUS, who are deployed on Inter-State barriers of Punjab, with other States shall also be entitled to compensation under the Ex-gratia Policy of Punjab Government, in case of death in harness” Government tells HC.
A PIL filed by Advocate H.C. Arora, seeking the issuance of directions to Punjab Government to treat the Computer Faculties of PICTUS, who are deployed on Inter-State barriers of Punjab, with other States at par with Government employees discharging duties as front line Corona warriors, for granting compensation under the Ex-gratia Policy of Punjab Government, in case of death in harness. It may be noticed that in case of death of a Corona Warrior, while on duty as front line workers, the dependent family is entitled to ex-gratia payment of Rs.fifty lakhs.
In response to the PIL, the State of Punjab has filed a reply stating that such Computer Faculties, who are in regular service of PICTUS, shall be given the benefit of ex-gratia policy of Punjab Government. However, since PICTUS does not have its own resources, it has sought approval from Finance Department, for adopting ex-gratia policy, which is otherwise applicable to PICTUS (Punjab ICT Education Society) also.
In their response, the Government has also disclosed that a proposal has also been sent by PICTUS to the Health and Family Welfare Department, to give approval to extend facility of free medical treatment to regular employees/Computer Faculties also in case they require such medical treatment during deployment as font line workers. It may be noticed that during such deployment on inter-state barriers, the Computer Faculty have to collect and maintain records of all persons entering into Punjab, from other States, with purpose to prevent outbreak of Corona virus.
The PIL was therefore, disposed off as having been satisfied.
