Chandigarh: In a major step towards developing high end start-ups, innovation etc facilities at Panjab university, Vice Chancellor Prof. Renu Vig today inaugurated state of art RUSA Incubator facility for Physical sciences at the Department of Physics. This facility is developed by RUSA with Rs 1 Crore and will be a milestone towards fulfilling the goal of start-up culture in basic sciences, which, otherwise is uncommon in basic sciences.
Explaining this, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Renu Vig said that up to now the words like start-up, innovation etc were limited to engineering only. Under the initiative of RUSA, a new culture will emerge where basic sciences will be new hub for the start-up, innovations.
Prof. Rajeev Puri, university coordinator for RUSA revealed that Prof. Renu Vig is taking keen interest in the RUSA project and entire project got speed up after she joined as vice chancellor. Her experience of engineering is very valuable for the RUSA project.
It is worth mentioning that the RUSA has sanctioned sum of Rs. 50 Crores out of which 7.5 crore was released. Under RUSA, various incubation facilities are being built up . As many as 8 skill labs and incubators will be inaugurated by the vice chancellor in next two weeks. This includes one for chemical sciences, bio-sciences, Engineering sciences, Skill centres at depts. of Geography, Geology, Botany, and anthropology, apart from the inaugurated today. All these centres will also tie up with various companies so that our students can either try start ups or can give services in various multinational companies. A sum of Rs. 4 Crores has been kept for budding start-ups, innovators.
