Free foodgrains (wheat) under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojna to be distributed

The Department of Food & Supplies and Consumer Affairs & Legal Metrology, UT, Chandigarh will distribute free foodgrains (wheat) under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojna (PMGKAY-VI). Under this scheme, each eligible beneficiary will get 5 Kg wheat per month for the period April, 2022 to September, 2022. The Department will, therefore, distribute 30 Kg wheat per person i.e. distribution in one go as per the tentative schedule given at the official website and notice (enclosed) board of the department w.e.f. 18.06.2022. This will be in addition to the DBT Food subsidy.

Only the registered beneficiaries under NFSA, as on 30th April, 2022 are eligible to receive free food grains under this scheme. The Head of family or any member of the family can visit the distribution centre with Aadhar Cards of the family members to collect the foodgrains.

The department shall set up distribution centers across the city and all eligible beneficiaries will be covered under PMGKAY-VI scheme. The distribution of foodgrains will start from 15.06.2022 at these community centers, Shivalik Garden Manimajra, Community Centre Gobindpura Manimajra, Community Centre Krishangarh, Community Centre Vikasnagar Maulijagran, Community Centre Maulijagran Colony Maulijagran, Ayushman Dispensary Village Maulijagran, Community Centre HBC Dhanas, Community Centre/Tubewell EWS Dhanas, Community Centre Kishangarh for the local beneficiaries and the distribution in other parts of the city will start in due course to cover all the beneficiaries in time bound manner. Tokens having date, time and venue will be distributed 1-2 days prior to scheduled distribution. The beneficiaries are advised to avoid crowding at the distribution centers in their area. The public at large is requested to cooperate with the department and to follow COVID appropriate behaviour norms.
