Chandigarh: Chandigarh Administration reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing social infrastructure by inaugurating a new Girls’ Hostel Block at the Post Graduate Government College, Sector 42, Chandigarh.

The inauguration was done by  Banwarilal Purohit, Governor of Punjab & Administrator, U.T., Chandigarh, along with esteemed dignitaries including Smt. Kirron Kher, Member of Parliament, Chandigarh, and Sh. Rajeev Verma, IAS, Adviser to the Administrator.

The newly constructed Hostel Block, spanning over 1,14,230 Sq. ft., represents a significant investment of Rs. 19.49 Crore. Comprising a ground floor and three upper floors, the hostel boasts modern amenities to accommodate 364 students, including 68 rooms, 62 dormitories, and various facilities such as a Warden house, research scholar rooms, activity room, meditation room, and cyber café, among others.

In addition to meeting current needs, the hostel has been designed with foresight, allowing for the addition of two more storeys in the future to accommodate an additional 200 students as per requirements. This initiative aims to alleviate the shortage of hostel facilities for girls in the region, providing a conducive environment for pursuing higher education.

The construction of the Girls’ Hostel Block underscores the Chandigarh Administration’s dedication to fostering educational and healthcare opportunities for its residents. By addressing the critical need for accommodation, the administration aims to empower more young women to access quality education and contribute to the socio-economic development of the region.
