Historical monuments and cultural heritage of Haryana should be developed elegantly-Dattatraya

Chandigarh,(Aditi) : Historical monuments and cultural heritage of Haryana should be developed elegantly with the help of schemes and programmes of the Central government so that more and more tourists are attracted to the State, said Haryana Governor Shri Bandaru Dattatraya on Tuesday.

Shri Dattatraya was discussing ways and means to promote tourism in the State during a meeting with Union Minister for Tourism and Culture and DoNER Shri G Kishan Reddy. The Governor stressed the need to put more focus on promoting the events of Mahabharata and teachings of Gita to establish the identity of ‘Dharmakshetra’ Kurukshetra in the world.

Shri Dattatraya also discussed projects related to Indian culture and the Gita, which are coming up at Jyotisar, near Kurukshetra. He said that by showing the happenings related to the Mahabharata in the form of sculptures around Brahma Sarovar and other pilgrimage sites of Kurukshetra will draw more devotees.

Union Minister for Tourism and Culture and DoNER Shri G Kishan Reddy informed that many tourism projects have been implemented in Haryana with the help of the Central government assistance. Shri Krishna Circuit is being developed for which an amount of Rs 97.34 crore has been released by the Central government, out of which Rs 77.87 crore has also been spent, said Shri Reddy.

The Ministry of Tourism has approved Rs 49.51 crore for the development of Nada Sahib Gurdwara, Panchkula and Shri Mata Mansa Devi Temple under the pilgrimage restoration and spiritual heritage conservation campaign. The work is in progress at both these places. He said that the development of the tourism sector has been hit hard due to Covid-19 pandemic. Now the Department of Tourism has started the ‘Corona Bhagao Aur Tourism Badhao’ campaign. For this purpose, a Tourism Bill is going to be introduced in Parliament soon. This will be the first Bill to give a new direction to the tourism sector after independence in the country, he said.
