Pregnant Women- Decision on their active uty in govt. offices soon
Chandigarh(Ramanjit Singh) – Punjab Government undertakes to take an early decision on the representation submitted by Advocate H.C. Arora for exempting the pregnant lady employees etc. from active duty due to corona crisis.
In a PIL filed by Advocate H.C. Arora, A Division Bench of the HC had issued an order on 3rd July, 2020, recording an undertaking on behalf of the State of Punjab that they will take an appropriate decision on the demand raised by the petitioner that (i) pregnant lady employees; (ii) the employees with children less than age of 10 years and (iii) the employees with co-morbidities should be exempted from active duty in the offices.
As despite submission of a representation by the petitioner ON 18TH May, the State of Punjab did not take any decision on the same, the petitioner filed a Contempt Petition, which came up for hearing before Hon’ble Justice Raj Mohan Singh , who observed that although no contempt is made out against the State Government yet in view of the fact that the representation dated 18th May, 2020 submitted by the petitioner is still pending consideration before the above Appropriate Authority, At this stage, Deepali Puri, appearing for the respondent Chief Secretary, stated that the State would take a decision on the representation “at the earliest”. The Contempt Petition was disposed of with the above observations.
