PUNJAB POLICE ARREST TWO DRUG SMUGGLERS WITH 12KG HEROIN FROM FEROZEPURPUNJAB POLICE ARREST TWO DRUG


FEROZEPUR: The ongoing drive against drugs launched on the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann dealt a major blow to the trans-border narcotic network after Punjab Police foiled a major drug smuggling bid by the Pak-based smugglers with the arrest of two Indian drug smugglers after recovering 12kg heroin from their possession, said the Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Thursday.

Those arrested have been identified as Gurbinder Singh alias Binder and Kulwant Singh alias Kanta, both residents of village Mallan in Tarn Taran. The Police have also impounded their Maruti Swift Dzire car (PB-18-M-8998) in which they were travelling.

DGP Gaurav Yadav said that following reliable inputs about the attempt to influx of large quantity of heroin by Pak-based smugglers, Police teams of Counter Intelligence Ferozepur carried out a secret operation in the area of Qilla Chowk in Ferozepur, where these accused persons were expected to come after retrieving the heroin consignment from the border area. Police teams successfully apprehended both the accused persons when they were coming in their Swift Dzire car and recovered 16 packets of heroin, weighing 12kgs, from their possession, he said.

Sharing more details, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Counter Intelligence Ferozepur Lakbhir Singh said that both the arrested accused persons were already into the drug smuggling and have been facing several cases under NDPS act. Further investigations are on to find out more people involved in this module and more arrests are expected in coming days, he added.

A case FIR No. 35 dated 11-10-2023 has been registered under sections 21(C) and 29 of the NDPS Act at Police Station SSOC Fazilka.
