SAD SEEKS PRESIDENTIAL INTERVENTION: RELEASE OF DEVINDER PAL SINGH BHULLAR

DELEGATION TO CALL ON R N KOVIND

Chandigarh (Gurpreet) – A delegation of the Shiromani AKali Dal will meet the president of India R N Kovind to seek “ immediate and effective personal intervention” to secure the release of Sardar Devinder Pal Singh Bhullar.

This was stated by Mr Harcharan Singh Bains, Principal Advisor to the SAD president S Sukhbir Singh Badal . Mr Bains was addressing a press conference at the party headquarters here this afternoon. Mr Bains took on Navjot Singh Sidhu, Charanjit Singh Channi and Kejrival, saying that these leaders “befool the people of Punjab by talking of “politics of issues, but for them, the release of S Devinder Pal Singh Bhullar and the political elevation and honouring of Jagdish Tytler by SoniaGandhi are not “issues” for the Punjabis. “Their “politics of issues” is in bed with politics of polarization and opportunism,” said Mr Bains, adding that the party has sought time from the president of India to request his intervention for immediate release of Mr Bhullar.

Answering a question whether SAD’s demand for S Bhullar’s release was linked to the ongoing poll atmosphere, Mr Bains said “In the past ten years, the SAD has met different President and the Prime Ministers of India with delegations headed separately by the then Chief Minister Sardar Parkash Singh Badal and later by the SAD president S Sukhbir Singh Badal. “There were no election going on in Punjab at that time.”

The party also demanded the registration of an FIR against the ex DGP S Chattopadhaya for reportedly “taking orders not only from petty, corrupt and vengeful politicians but even from proclaimed offenders and known anti national elements while registering false cases against political rivals of the ruling party including the Akali leader S Bikram Singh Majithia. Mr Bains quoted media reports to substantiate the party’s charge that Mr Chattopadhya made key appointments to sensitive police jobs on orders from these proclaimed offenders, including the associates of Jagdish Singh Bhola , the much publicized drug don. Reacting to the decision of the Punjab and Haryana High Court on the application for regular bail by the senior SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia, Mr bains said that the party respects the judiciary but will exercise its legal right to seek justice in the matter from the apex court. “ Blind and brazen vendetta is nothing to new us Akalis. As citizen of a free democratic country , we will fight injustice everywhere. This is clearly an attempt to silence the party but as in the past, this will only boomerang on the oppressors.”
