Sukhbir S Badal urges farmers to boycott AAP for implementing the centre’s agenda by disbanding APMCs

Sangrur: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal today urged farmers to boycott the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for implementing the central government agenda to disband the agriculture produce market committees (APMCs) by declaring eleven silos in nine districts of Punjab as procurement centres for sale, purchase, storage and processing of wheat.

The SAD president, who attended the bhog ceremony of Jathedar Amrik Singh Mander, father of Gurbachan Singh Bachi at Sangrur, attended Roza Iftar party at Malerkotla, and also addressed various public gatherings in Sangrur, said chief minister Bhagwant Mann was deliberately disbanding the ‘mandi’ system in the State by handing over government procurement centres to corporates. “This was part of the agenda of the three farm laws which were revoked following the Kisan Andolan two years back. Farmers need to unite to thwart this system from being adopted in Punjab as it will negate the sacrifices made to prevent implementation of the three farm laws and pave the way for further privatization of food grain procurement”.

Mr Sukhbir Badal also urged farmers to ask Bhagwant Mann to clarify his statement on ensuring minimum support price (msp) for all food grains. He said Mann had given a categorical statement that the State government would ensure msp for all 22 crops in case AAP came to power. “This promise was however forgotten immediately after AAP formed the government”, he added.

Asserting that the SAD was the true representative of the Khalsa Panth and Punjabis, Mr Badal said “we understand the aspirations of Punjabis and will do our utmost to ensure they are fulfilled”. He said all Delhi based parties were interested in attaining power to fulfill their national interests and would never give justice to Punjab or Punjabis.

Speaking about the situation in Punjab, Mr Badal said “AAP is using resources from Punjab to fulfill its national aspirations. Builders are being called and asked to deposit Rs five crore each into the coffers of AAP. The chief minister’s family has taken over the cable network at many places and its members have started their own rackets”.

Mr Badal also condemned the chief minister for failing to come to the aid of farmers whose wheat crop had been flattened for the second time by unseasonal rain and hail storms. He said it was shocking that the chief minister did not have a word of sympathy for the farmers, forget awarding them interim relief as promised for their crop loss. He demanded that girdwaris be conducted immediately to assess the crop damage and award compensation at the earliest.

Senior leaders including Parminder Singh Dhindsa, Iqbal Singh Jhundan, Gobind Singh Longowal, Baldev Singh Mann, Parkash Chand Garg, Gaganjit Singh Barnala, Tejinder Singh Sanghreri, Winnerjit Singh Goldy, Rajinder Deepa,Gulzari Moonak, Nath Singh Hamidi, Kulwant Singh Keetu and Zahida Suleman accompanied the SAD president.
