World Population Day Celebrated at Desh Bhagat University
Chandigah (Pawan Garg) With more than 1.8 billion young people, world has its largest generation of youth in history and India is among those developing nations who have maximum number of youth and World Population Day is an opportunity to renew our commitment to help youth to unleash progress across society said Dr. Zora Singh, Chancellor DBU on the occasion of World population Day 2020. Desh Bhagat University observed the day to raise awareness about global population issues such as the importance of family planning, including gender equality, poverty, maternal health and human rights. The Gender Club of university organized a webinar in which staff members and students and native villagers participated and discussed the issues related to population of India. Dr. Tejinder Kaur Pro Chancellor DBU was also present on the occasion and said India is standing second in population chart and it will surpass China by 2030. This is an alarming situation for all of us and it becomes necessary to spread awareness about the importance of population control. Dr Rajwant Kaur Randhawa of Faculty of Nursing and Ms. Lovesampooran Kaur, Coordinator Gender Club delivered an expert lecture on importance and need of family planning
Dr Shalini Gupta, Vice Chancellor Desh Bhagat University, appreciated the efforts of staff members and students on organizing an event on such sensitive and important social issues. She said India is among those nations who have the largest chunk of youth in their population and DBU is committed towards its responsibility to provide rightful opportunities to youth to get quality education, ample job prospects and at the same time to educate people on the dire need of curbing the increasing population.
