PUNJAB CONGRESS CHIEF SLAMS AAP AFTER PUNJAB POLICE ARRESTS MLA SUKHPAL SINGH KHAIRA

Chandigarh : Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring today slammed Bhagwant Mann-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) after Punjab Police arrested senior Congress leader and Chairman All India Kissan Congress MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira in connection with an old case registered against him under the NDPS Act. Calling it a clear case of vendetta politics to intimidate opposition leaders, Raja Warring said that, the Congress leaders won’t be bulldozed by such use of force or ‘political harassment’. While informing about the case, the PPC Chief said, “As far my knowledge, the honourable Supreme Court had already quashed the NDPS case long ago,”. The latest developments, under which Khaira sahab had been arrested, was nothing but an attempt of the terrified ruling government to muzzle the voice of strong and vociferous leaders who point out finger on the government and question its tainted leaders boldly, he added. Expressing profound dismay over the police action, Warring remarked, "I am at a loss for words in the face of this disgraceful behaviour exhibited by the police force." Adding weight to the condemnation, Warring added that this distressing event had cast a dark shadow over the reputation of the police, eroding public trust in the law enforcement apparatus. Coming down heavily on the police department, Warring said that everyone was aware of the recent case of lawyer’s ‘custodial torture’ that had exposed the Punjab Police department’s ‘Intent’ to handle the law & order situation in the state. The charges levelled against the Police personnel were not just condemnable but shameful. The incident exposed that the DGP is just following the party at helm’s orders to pressurise and oppress the opposition leaders instead of acting as the DGP and focusing on the deteriorating law & order situation. After Sukhpal Khaira was arrested by the Punjab Police in the morning, the Congress president visited his residence in Chandigarh and met his family. He offered his support to the family members and assured that the party leadership was with them in the difficult time. The PPC Chief while expressing solidarity with the Congress leader said that party would fight the legal battle against the false case and it was confident that Sukhpal Khaira would be vindicated in the end. The senior INC Punjab leadership including leader of opposition Partap Singh Bajwa, former ministers Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa, Pargat Singh & Bharat Bhushan Ashu, MLA Vikramjit Singh Chaudhary, Raj Kumar Channewal, Jugal Kishore Sharma, Kuldeep Vaid, Capt Sandeep Sandhu, Hardyal Singh Kamboj and others also held a meeting at PPCC chief's house to discuss the party's future course of action in this case. Later a delegation of INC Punjab leadership also called upon the Hon'ble Punjab Governor Banwari Lal Purohit, to raise the issue of the vindictive arrest of MLA Khaira and sought his intervention in the matter.
