ARRANGEMENTS FOR PADDY PROCUREMENT OF UPCOMING KMS 23-24 STARTED ON DIRECTIONS OF FOOD


Chandigarh: On the directions of the Food & Civil Supplies Minister, Lal Chand Kataruchak, to ensure timely supply of new jute bales required for smooth procurement of paddy in the upcoming season KMS 2023-24, the Director Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Punjab, Ghanshyam Thori visited Kolkata to resolve pending issues with Jute Commissioner of India (JCI), Container Corporation of India (CONCOR) and Indian Jute Mills Association. These are the key stakeholders for the supply of jute bales to the State agencies of Punjab for packaging of wheat and paddy/rice procured in Central pool every year.


The visit aimed to discuss pressing issues, such as the closure of previous seasons' indents, timely supply of bales required for upcoming paddy season, settlement of claims with the JCI and CONCOR and other issues with Jute Industry.


The Director emphasized timely supply of jute bales against the indents being placed by State Procurement Agencies.


The meeting also delved into the subject of claims of bales with the JCI and CONCOR. The Director emphasized the need for a fair and transparent resolution process to address pending claims and ensure that rightful compensation is provided to the concerned parties. This proactive approach is aimed to safeguard the interests of all stakeholders involved in

the jute sector.


He underscored the commitment of Punjab's Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs department to strengthening ties with key stakeholders in the jute industry and resolving pressing issues collaboratively.


It is notable to mention here that Punjab is

the largest purchaser of Jute bales and State agencies of Punjab place indents of nearly 9.5 lakh bales every year worth 3200 Crores rupees.
