Chandigarh's weightlifter Paramveer Singh won double gold - creates history


City-based weightlifter Paramveer Singh lifted 136 kg in snatch and 170 kg in clean and jerk and a total of 306 kg in youth and junior categories respectively in the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships to lift the title of champion. .


This is the first time in the history of Chandigarh weightlifting that a player has won a double gold medal in the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships. He did his hard work under the guidance of weightlifting coach Karanbir Singh Buttar at WCC Sports Complex Sector-42 Chandigarh.


Record made in National Game and Khelo India Game...


Paramveer broke his own record by lifting 177 kg in clean and jerk, in which his name was entered in the record books by lifting 176 kg in the National Games and Khelo India Games. Paramveer had set 4 new records a few months ago by winning gold in the junior and sub-junior categories at the National Weightlifting Championship.

Karanveer Singh Buttar, the coach of Paramveer ( a student of Chitkara School) ,said that at the age of 10, Paramveer started weightlifting. He was taking training in Sector-42. He played for the first time in the 2022 Bhubaneswar National and won the gold medal . While in Panchkula in Khelo games he won the bronze medal .he took two golds together in the Tamil Nadu Nationals, after which he also won the gold medal for Chandigarh in the Khelo India Games held in Madhya Pradesh.

Paramveer's father Gurjit Singh is working in Punjab PWD and is also an international medalist in master category and his elder brother Gurkaran Singh is a national weightlifter. Chandigarh's Sports Director Saurabh Arora and Joint Director Sunil also keep encouraging Paramveer and his coach.
