Fifteen Punjabi boys are missing while crossing the US Border since several years

Chandigarh (Gurpreet) The North American Punjabi Association (NAPA) has brought to notice of Capt. Amrinder Singhabout about fifteen boys from Punjab are missing while crossing or before crossing the US Border since several years . Their parents are running from pillars to post to know about

the where abouts of their loved ones. We also wrote two letters to you earlier to

seek your intervention in this matter but unfortunately there is no output in this

case. We therefore once again remind you to look into the matter and use your

good office to track these missing Punjabi boys. The North American Punjabi

Association, being mindful of its obligation to the Punjabi community is extending

all possible help to secure track them according to our sources.

I would also like to draw your kind attention that 1793 Indians most of them are

said to be from Punjab are languishing in 95 US Jails and out of them 161 were

deported to India recently. This is more than unfortunate that a Punjabi youth,

unable to bear the pressure of leading this troublesome life in US committed

suicide by hanging himself and NAPA sent his body to his native village in Punjab

for cremation. The passage of “Punjab Prevention of Human Smuggling Bill” in

2010 and 2012(Amendment) by the Punjab Legislative Assembly was a welcome

sign and a step-in right direction to provide safe guards to check this unwanted

human trafficking. The Act provides for regulations of travel agents to check their

illegal activities in Punjab, where cases of organized human trafficking are on the

rise. As per the bill, every travel agent will have to obtain a license from the

competent authority, who would be an officer appointed by the state

Government through a notification. The bill further envisages that the travel

agents are required to obtain the license with in a period of 60 days from the date

of Act comes into force. In case an agent fails to start work within three months of

the issuance of license, his license will be cancelled. The agent should have a

minimum qualification of matriculation or its equivalent from a recognized

university or institution. If he opens a new branch or office, he will have to inform

the competent authority. The license of the person convicted by the court will be

cancelled. But we regret to inform you that business of illegal human smuggling is

still flouring in Punjab
