Chandigarh (Aditi) A joint delegation of Research Scholars and Student organizations raised the demands and issues in front of Panjab University, Administration. Jogwinder of Ambedkar Student Association, Aman Ratia, Amandeep and Pragya from All India Students Association, Rajat and Tanjeet from Student for Society, Amandeep from PSU (Lalkar) and Sunil Kumar and Ankur Goyat from Youth for Swaraj were part of the delegation. Apart from this Students Federation of India and All India Students Federation also extended support to the joint memorandum.

The corona epidemic which has taken the form of human crisis in health sector has pushed many sections of the society towards many kinds of suffering and problems. At the same time, there is a lot of uncertainties about educational institutions, where students and parents are going through a dilemma regarding education, at the same time, the faculty member of these institutions also face an acute economic crisis.

In almost all the departments of Panjab University, a very vital role is played by guest faculty. There are around 250 guest faculty working in the university campus. This staff has been contributing in every task. In general, the guest faculty is given rest from their services for a few months, these are the months when there is no teaching work in the institutes. They are then called back to re-join when the teaching work starts again.

Due to the pandemic, where regular classes were stopped in educational institutions, the situation regarding teaching work in these institutions is uncertain, guest facilities are facing economic hardship.  Due to Corona, there is confusion regarding academic session and teaching work and the guest faculty is suffering due to this. We demand that under no circumstances should the guest faculty be financially exploited and they should be paid.  Of course, whether the teaching work starts or not, these workers should be paid from July.  We demand from the Punjab University Administration to ensure that it pays salaries in the departments, regional centers and Constituent Colleges under it, apart from which strict administrative action should be taken against any educational institution if it violates these guidelines. The submitted joint memorandum was signed by more then 100 research scholars and students of Panjab University.
