Mayor honors Ex-Servicemen and kin of deceased firemen at "Veeron Ka Vandan" in Chandigarh


Chandigarh: In a heartfelt tribute to the heroes who sacrificed their lives while serving the nation, Mayor Sh. Anup Gupta felicitated the kin of deceased firemen and honored two ex-servicemen during the inspiring "Veeron Ka Vandan" program held at Nehru Park, Sector 22. This event was organized under the banner of the 'Meri Maati, Mera Desh' campaign, which commemorates the 75 years of India's independence.


In the presence of area councilor Sh. Damanpreet Singh, the Mayor honored Smt. Manjeet Kaur, wife of Late Sh. Amarjeet Singh Mavi (deceased fireman), Sh. Dheeraj Sharma, son of Late Sh. Ravinder Kumar Sharma (deceased leading fireman) and Sh. Amrik Singh and Akash Kant Gupta, both ex-serviceman for their immense sacrifices and services rendered towards motherland.


Addressing the audience, the Mayor expressed his admiration for the nationwide initiative with the tagline "Mitti ko naman, veeron ka vandan," which symbolizes people's commitment to celebrating India's achievements while paying homage to its gallant defenders. He emphasized that the 'Meri Maati Mera Desh' campaign, which concludes the Azaadi ka Amrit Mahotsav program, encapsulates the spirit of gratitude towards our homeland.


As part of this program, the Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh took pride in honoring the families of deceased firemen and ex-servicemen, recognizing their invaluable contributions. As a sign of solidarity with nature, approximately 50 saplings of various flowering and medicinal plants were planted at the park, accompanied by a thorough cleaning of the park and its surroundings.


The Mayor further highlighted that the 'Meri Maati Mera Desh' campaign encompasses a series of actions aimed at strengthening our bond with the Earth and paying tribute to our brave defenders. It serves as a poignant reminder of our commitment to the land that nourishes us while expressing gratitude to those who safeguard our nation's sovereignty.
