Under BJP regime 70 crore unemployed in India: Tewari

CHANDIGARH: Senior Congress leader and Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) candidate from Chandigarh parliamentary constituency Manish Tewari today said that under Bharatiya Janata Party government during the last ten years, the country had seen humongous rise in unemployment with 70 crore people, half of the total population of the country, remaining unemployed.

Interacting with residents of Chandigarh during his 'padyatras’ and public meetings here today, Tewari said, unemployment in the country today was highest in last 45 years.

He reminded people how Narendra Modi before becoming the Prime Minister had promised to generate two crore jobs every year, which means, by now there should have been 20 crore jobs. Rather it has been the reverse of it as the unemployment is at an all time high.

Tewari said the Modi government did not seem to be inclined to provide jobs. The simplest thing they could have done was to fill up 30 lakh vacancies pending in different government departments. “Only someone who is callous and oblivious of the problems of our unemployed youth can be so indifferent by keeping the vacancies pending while people are crying for jobs”, he observed.

The former union minister said that the first thing the INDIA government will do is to fill all the 30 lakh vacancies on top priority.

Besides, he added, the INDIA government will bring in the Right to Apprenticeship Act under the ‘pehli naukri pakki’ scheme. Under this scheme all fresh graduates and diploma holders will be entitled to one year apprenticeship with a guaranteed income of Rs one lakh for that period. “Practically no fresh graduate or a diploma holder will remain unemployed immediately after completing his degree or diploma with an assured monthly income or Rs 8500 for the first year”, he pointed out, while saying that only the Congress party can think and bring schemes which directly benefit the common man across the country.
