BJP-JJP government of Haryana has once again highlighted its anti-women mentality

Chandigarh, (Aditi) – President, Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee, Kumari Selja said that the BJP-JJP government of Haryana has once again highlighted its anti-women mentality. The Haryana Government had lied about 50 percent reservation for women in the Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs). This decision of the government will stop women from contesting on remaining 50 percent seats. The Haryana government's confinement of women to 50 percent seats in PRIs exposes its anti-women face.

In a statement issued here today, Kumari Selja said that this decision of the Haryana government is completely unconstitutional. Due to this decision, women will not be able to contest on 50 percent seats in panchayat elections. She said that 50 percent reservation is available in other states as well, but there is no such rule that women cannot participate on remaining 50 percent seats in elections. She said that it is completely against the constitution.

Kumari Selja said that this decision of the government has exposed the government’s claims of women empowerment. The government only pretends whereas the mentality of government is anti-women. This conspiratorial decision to deprive women of 50 percent seats has once again exposed the BJP-JJP government, she added.

She said that the Haryana government has only talked about reservation of 50 percent women whereas it is working to stop them from contesting elections on the rest 50 percent seats. 50 percent reservation does not mean that more than 50 percent women cannot become public representatives. This condition of the BJP-JJP government of Haryana is anti-women. The government should give women a chance to contest elections on reserved seats as well as unreserved seats.
