Sensitisation on Voting for Persons with Disabilities


Chandigarh: The Election Department of UT Chandigarh, in collaboration with Dev Samaj College for Women, Sector 45-D Chandigarh, organized a highly impactful sensitization and awareness program aimed at Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the college premises, witnessed an enthusiastic turnout of more than a hundred students and faculty members. The session  shed light on the various provisions and facilities available for PwD voters during elections. Attendees were informed about the accessibility measures, including ramps, wheelchairs, priority entry to polling stations, braille-enabled electronic voting machines, and pick & drop services. Speaking on the occasion Mr. J. S. Jayara, Retd. Principal of the Institute for the Blind, Sector-26 Chandigarh, and State Icon for PWDs, UT Chandigarh impassioned address encouraged students to actively engage in the electoral process under the campaign 'Chunav ka Parv Desh ka Garv' and advocate for the exercising of voting rights among friends, family, and the wider community.Mr. J. S. Jayara through poignant recitations in Hindi, English, and Urdu, he inspired attendees to embrace their civic duty with fervor. The team of Nodal Officers for PWDs, UT Chandigarh, also apprised the audience about voter-centric applications launched by the Election Commission of India, such as Voter Helpline, Saksham-ECI App, and CVIGIL. They urged students to leverage these platforms and actively participate in the electoral process as responsible citizens.
