Chandigarh Dazzles with Vibrant Celebration at the Chandigarh Queer Mela


Chandigarh: The Tricity area pulsed with the vibrant energy of the Chandigarh Queer Mela, a joyous celebration of diversity and inclusion held on Thursday, March 7th, 2024, at Bal Bhavan, Sector 23. Organized by Queering in Chandigarh, Saksham Prakriti Welfare Society Chandigarh, Queer Lifafa, Humsafar Trust and Transcend, the event brought the community together for a day filled with color, expression, and education.

A Welcoming Space for All:

The Chandigarh Queer Mela welcomed everyone to join the festivities, creating a safe and inclusive space for the LGBTQIA+ community to celebrate their identities. Attendees of all backgrounds enjoyed the vibrant atmosphere. 

Highlights of the Mela:

- Electrifying Performances: Talented local queer artists took center stage, captivating the audience with their energy and artistic expression. 

- Thriving Marketplace: The Mela buzzed with activity as attendees browsed a diverse selection of art, crafts, and merchandise from local LGBTQIA+ businesses and artists. This provided a valuable platform for community members to showcase their work and promote inclusivity.

- Pride in Every Color: The spirit of Pride filled the air as attendees donned their most vibrant and festive attire, painting Chandigarh with a rainbow of colors. This visual display of unity and self-expression was a powerful highlight of the event.


"Pride in Prevention: Panel Discussion on AIDS and STI Control"

Mela offered an educational component with the "Pride in Prevention: Panel Discussion on AIDS and STI Control." This important session featured distinguished speakers who led insightful discussions. Their focus was on breaking down stigmas surrounding sexual health and promoting safe practices within the LGBTQIA+ community.

Meet the Esteemed Panelists:

- Dr. Jitender Dahiya: Deputy Director of Mainstreaming and in charge of AEP (Adolescence Education Programme) at CSACS, with a specialty in venereology.

- Mx. Dhananjay Chauhan: President of Saksham Prakriti Welfare Society, co-organizer of Garvotsav 2024, and a tireless advocate for the Transgender community.

A Cornerstone of Celebration:

The Chandigarh Queer Mela served as a vibrant cornerstone of the Chandigarh Garvotsav 2024, a week-long celebration of the LGBTQIA+ community. The event provided a platform for celebrating diversity, fostering inclusivity, and promoting knowledge and understanding.

The Queer Mela was possible with the efforts of Queering in Chandigarh, Saksham Prakriti Welfare Society Chandigarh, Queer Lifafa, Humsafar Trust, Transcend, Aashray NGO, Chandigarh Administration, Keshav Suri Foundation, The Lalit, Copan, Khanak.
