State Government committed to create robust infrastructure in educational sphere: Meet Hayer

Education Minister conducts meetings with teachers' union

Chandigarh, (Gurpreet) The Education Minister, Punjab, Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer today held meetings with the different teacher unions of the State.

During the meeting, the Education Minister said that the education sector is the priority of the Aam Aadmi Party Government which is fully committed to creating a robust atmosphere necessary for enduring quality education in the Government schools to the students of the State. Giving a patient hearing to the issues raised by the various unions, the Minister termed these as justified and assured to fulfill other just demands too.

Divulging more, Mr. Meet Hayer said that only the teachers can transform the school education atmosphere hence he would accord priority to resolve the issues of the teachers. He also said that the Government has zero tolerance policy towards the corrupt practices and he would take the feedback at ground level for transforming the educational system. The Minister also sought cooperation from the teacher unions for implementing the various reforms other than online transfer policy too. He also mentioned that the cases of the teachers who were discriminated against during the teachers protest, would be reviewed and justice would be done. The cases pertaining to the Finance Department would also be considered sympathetically.

During the meeting, various issues raised by the Teachers Unions' included stopping the implementation of National Education Policy-2020, Reviewing the cases of discrimination and giving justice to the teachers, filing the vacant posts of the schools, completing the ongoing new recruitments, reinstating the abolished posts, ensuring the time bound promotions in different cadres, keeping the quota percentage as before in the matter of promotions, Sending the teachers deputed in the offices to their parent schools, Stop taking non academic work from the teachers, Sending PTIs back to the middle schools who were shifted to the BPEO offices, Bringing the Adarsh schools (PPP Mode) on right track, Convert earned leave or the medical leave deducted in respect of the Covid infected teachers during the previous period into quarantine leave, Decentralization of the sanctioning authority of different leaves'. Apart from this, the matters regarding Finance and Personnel Department besides anomalies in the pay Commission were also taken up.

Among others present in the meeting on behalf of 18 Teacher Unions' based Sanjha Adhyapak Morcha included Sukhwinder Singh Chahal, Vikram Dev Singh, Baaz Singh Khaira, Harjit Singh Basota, Harvinder Singh Bilga. The Education Minister also held meetings with the leaders related to the Unions of different cadres.
