  • Tewari assures ordinance/law on shared registration of properties in Chandigarh

    CHANDIGARH: Senior Congress leader and Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) candidate from Chandigarh parliamentary constituency Manish Tewari today assured that the INDIA government will bring in an ordinance/law on the issue of shared registration of properties in Chandigarh. Reacting to the demands of several residents, Tewari said, it is unfortunate that the BJP government had not watched the interests of the residents and did not defend the case properly in the Supreme Court of India. The former union minister, who is a senior practicing lawyer himself, said that the Chandigarh administration appeared to have shrugged off its responsibility to address the genuine issues related to the transfer of shares, which has not been disallowed by the Supreme Court of India. Tewari pointed out, there is always a procedure and a way out to seek redressal in cases one feels that the court orders and judgements need to be reviewed. He said, unfortunately the BJP establishment chose not to pursue the matter leaving tens of thousands of residents of the city in lurch. He assured that the INDIA government will seek legal remedy to resolve the issue.

  • "No Flying Zone" for the purpose of Drones and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles

    Chandigarh:  Whereas, movement of V.V.I.P. is scheduled to U.T., Chandigarh on 03.05.2024, 04.05.2024 and 08.05.2024. In view of emerging threats due to recent trends of carrying out terrorist attacks by using Drones fitted with Improvised Explosive Device by anti- national elements and keeping in view of the security of V.V.I.Ps and general public, it becomes imperative to declare the area of U.T., Chandigarh as "No Flying Zone" for the purpose of Drones and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (U.A.V.s). Now therefore, considering above, Sh.Vinay Pratap Singh, I.A.S., District Magistrate. U.T., Chandigarh, exercising the power conferred upon him under section 144 of the Cr. P.C., do hereby order that the whole of Union Territory, Chandigarh shall be "No Flying Zone" for the purpose of flying of Drones and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) from 03.05.2024, 04.05.2024 and 08.05.2024. This order shall not be applicable on Law enforcement agencies including Police, Para-Military, Air Force, S.P.G. personnel and person authorized by competent Govt. authority. This order shall remain in force w.e.f. zero hours on 03.05.2024 to 04.05.2024 and again from zero hours on 07.05.2024 to 08.05.2024. In view of the emergent nature of this order, it is being issued ex-parte and is addressed to the public in general. Any breach of this order would invite action under section 188 of the I.P.C. and other relevant provisions of Law.

  • Will make up for BJP’s 10 lost years, Tewari assures Chandigarh

    CHANDIGARH: Manish Tewari, Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) candidate from Chandigarh today assured the people of the city that he will make up for the loss of ten precious years under the BJP rule. He said, unlike the BJP, the Congress has a multi-pronged vision of development, which not only takes into account the needs of the nation as a whole, but also the local needs, besides reaching out to help the needy individuals like the unemployed youth or poor families by providing them regular monthly income directly. Tewari was interacting with people in various markets and residential areas in Sectors 52, 21 and 22. He said Chandigarh lost precious ten years due to the callous indifference of the BJP dispensation that ruled right from the city up to the national capital. “The BJP had everything at its disposal and still the city slid in every aspect and so much so the "city beautiful" is no longer counted among the cleanest cities in the country”, he observed. “I have a vision, which I will soon be spelling out, for building a prosperous and progressive Chandigarh, where development does not take the backseat any further”, he assured the residents of Chandigarh. Tewari, who comes with a vast experience of being a decorated parliamentarian and a former union minister, maintained that the Congress has a multi-pronged strategy and approach towards progress and development. He said, while there is a well defined vision for nation building, the party also has specific plans for the local area development and above all, reaching out to individuals, like unemployed youth and poor women, by providing them direct monthly income. Tewari referred to the party’s ‘Grahlakshmi’ scheme under which one woman in every poor family will receive Rs 8500 every month, which comes to Rs one lakh a year, directly in her bank account, which will for sure help the families financially. Padyatra in Sector 52 Earlier in the morning, accompanied by Chandigarh Congress president, HS Lucky and other senior leaders, Tewari went around the Sector 52 market and residential areas leading a ‘padyatra’ where hundreds of party workers joined him. He interacted with the shopkeepers, traders and common people asking them about the issues they were facing, while assuring them to resolve them at the earliest. The Padyatra was organized by Secretary Chandigarh Congress, Subhash Gelhot. Among others Maya ji, Rajinder Kumar, Janan Singh, Rinku were also present there A separate ‘padyatra’ was organized by Vikram Chopra in Sectors 21. The padyatra in Sector 22 was organised by AAP Councillor, Damanpreet Badal. Hundreds of Congress and AAP workers participated in the Yatra. There was great synergy between the Congress and AAP workers during the ‘padyatra’. Citizens’ interaction Later, Tewari held an interaction with the citizens in Sector 21. It was attended by Justice (Retd) Ajay Tewari, former minister Naseeb Singh Gill and others. The interaction was organized by Surjeet Singh, Gurinder Singh Pooniya, Harcharan Singh Bath and Rajiv Godara. Meeting at Maloya: A meeting was organised at Maloya. Manish Tewari was felicitated by councilor Nirmala Devi, senior Congress leader Dilawar Singh and Rajpal Raja ji by wearing turban. During this time, block chief Vijay Yadav and other local people were present. He also welcomed new members of the Congress family, where Sompal Rana, Ajay, Ashok Rana, Vikas Kumar, Mangat Ram, Raju Gwala, Krishna, Dharmaveer joined the Congress family.

  • Erstwhile SAD govt instrumental in developing Greater Mohali area and bringing in international airport, institutions and IT sector – Sukhbir S Badal

    Mohali: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal today said the erstwhile SAD government was instrumental in developing the Greater Mohali area which was set to eclipse Gurgaon besides creating world class education and research facilities and a thriving Information Technology sector. The SAD president also appealed to the people to vote for the SAD to pave the way for expansion of the Greater Mohali area into a metropolis which would further augment employment and generate revenue for the State. The SAD president made these comments during the ongoing Punjab Bachao Yatra which received a phenomenal response in both Kharar and Mohali assembly constituencies. Mr Sukhbir Badal, who was accompanied by the party’s Sri Anandpur Sahib candidate – Prof Prem Singh Chandumajra, interacted with people across both constituencies. Youth thronged to the Yatra in both constituencies and also mobbed the SAD president in Mohali where he was profusely garlanded and showered with flower petals at every stop. Thanking the people for according massive welcome to the Punjab Bachao Yatra, Mr Sukhbir Badal said “this is also a reward for the party which has developed Mohali from a sleepy town into a bustling city which is growing by the day”. He said the SAD had not only planned the orderly and scientific expansion of Mohali and Kharar but had also created world class infrastructure and institutions. Asserting that the international airport established in Mohali by the former SAD government had resulted in the speedy development of the city and resulted in an increase in commerce besides connectivity with the outside world, Mr Badal said “the IT sector has also taken ground in Mohali due to the airport”. He also disclosed how he had himself persuaded industry heads to establish the Indian School of Business in Mohali while adding that the previous SAD governments were behind the establishment of the world famous IISER and the Institute of Nano Science and Technology in Mohali. He also disclosed how he had personally visited heads of IT companies in Bangalore and Hyderabad and urged them to establish facilities in Mohali. Industry association members and even residence welfare associations also met the SAD president and disclosed that all infrastructure development had come to a close in Kharar and Mohali since the last seven years during the previous Congress and present AAP government tenure. People said forget infrastructure development; even infrastructure which had been built during the SAD tenure was not being maintained. They also complained that in Kharar the municipal council was deliberately being starved of funds while Mohali city was being completely ignored by the AAP government. Senior leaders Ranjit Singh Gill and Parvinder Singh Sohanal also accompanied the SAD president during his Yatra in Kharar and Mohali.

  • PUNJAB POLICE SEIZES 4KG ICE DRUG, 1KG HEROIN FROM AMRITSAR; ONE HELD

    AMRITSAR: In an intelligence-led operation against trans-border narcotic smuggling networks, Counter Intelligence (CI) Amritsar has arrested one person after recovering 4 Kg ICE drug (Crystal Methamphetamine) and 1 Kg heroin from his possession, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Friday. The arrested accused has been identified as Avtar Singh, a resident of village Kakkar in district Amritsar. DGP Gaurav Yadav said that following reliable inputs that accused Avtar Singh has retrieved a consignment of narcotic drugs from village Bhindi Saidan in Ajnala and intends to deliver this consignment near Hargobind Avenue at Sher Shah Suri Road in Chheharta, Police teams from CI Amritsar led by DSP CI Balbir Singh swiftly conducted the raid at the designated location. Police teams have apprehended the accused person and recovered 4 Kg ICE drug and 1 Kg heroin from his possession, he added. The DGP said that during the investigation, it was found that the accused Avtar was directly in touch with a Pakistan-based drug smuggler. Probe has also revealed that the Pakistan-based drug smuggler has used drones to deliver this drug consignment from across the border, he added. He said that further investigations are ongoing to establish backward and forward linkages to unveil the entire network. A case FIR no 26 dated 02.05.2024 has been registered under sections 21, 22, and 29 of the NDPS Act at Police Station SSOC Amritsar. The accused Avtar Singh will be produced before the local court, where the police will seek remand to extract vital information regarding his other accomplices involved in this nefarious drug trade.

  • Warning issued to Shiromani Akali Dal and Aam Aadmi Party for violation of Model Code of Conduct

    Chandigarh: The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Punjab, in accordance with directives from the Election Commission of India, has issued warnings to the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for violations of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) during the Lok Sabha Elections 2024. Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) had used the phrase 'Delhi ke Dalal' in a video against Aam Aadmi Party's State Convener and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and AAP candidates in the Lok Sabha elections-2024, which is in violation of the guidelines of the MCC. The Shiromani Akali Dal later deleted the video. Furthermore,  using of children in election rally of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President Sukhbir Singh Badal, has been deemed to be a violation of the MCC. The Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer of Ludhiana also submitted a report that children were used during an election campaign. Regarding the use of children in elections, there are clear guidelines from the ECI that children should not be used in election rallies/ campaigns. The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has been warned for violating the directions issued by the ECI regarding the MCC and directed it not to repeat such mistakes in future and strictly follow the guidelines of the MCC of ECI in true letter and spirits in future. On the other hand, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has been refrained from uploading posts/videos like 'Unsacred Games of Punjab'. Also, the casteist remarks used by Cabinet Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar for his political opponents have also been considered as a violation of the MCC issued by the Election Commission of India. The Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer of Tarn Taran also submitted a report  that the use of casteist remarks was in violation of the instructions of the ECI. The Aam Aadmi Party has been warned for violating the Election Commission's guidelines on MCC and directed it not to repeat such a mistake in future and strictly follow the guidelines of the model code of conduct of ECI in true letter and spirits in future.

  • Aam Aadmi Party gains more strength in Ludhiana Lok Sabha constituency

    Ludhiana: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) got a big boost in Ludhiana Lok Sabha constituency, while Congress and Akali Dal Badal suffered a big setback here. On Thursday, Jagraon's current city council president Amarjit Singh Malwa, along with many current and former councillors, left Congress and joined the AAP. Many district level leaders of Akali Dal also joined AAP. All the leaders were formally inducted into the party by Aam Aadmi Party Punjab President and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann who welcomed these leaders with the party's muffler. On this occasion, Jagraon MLA Sarabjit Kaur Manuke and chairman Amandeep Singh Mohie were also present.     Chandigarh: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has appointed 15 Expenditure Observers for various Lok Sabha constituencies in Punjab. The Expenditure observers are entrusted with the responsibility of overseeing the expenditure incurred by candidates and political parties during the campaign period, ensuring compliance with election expenditure regulations. Disclosing the details of the appointed Expenditure Observers, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Punjab, Sibin C said that the appointed observers are distinguished Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officers who bring a wealth of experience and expertise to their roles. He informed that Harshad S Vengurlekar has been appointed for Gurdaspur, Bare Ganesh Sudhakar for Amritsar, Anurag Tripathi for Khadoor Sahib, Madhav Deshmukh for Jalandhar (SC), and Pawan Kumar Khetan for Hoshiarpur Lok Sabha Constituency. Similarly, Shilpi Sinha has been appointed for Anandpur Sahib, Pankaj Kumar and Chetan D Kalamkar for Ludhiana, and Akhilesh Kumar Yadava and Nandini R Nair for Bathinda Constituency. Additionally, Anand Kumar for Fatehgarh Sahib, Manish Kumar for Faridkot, Nagendra Yadav for Ferozepur, Amit Sanjay Gaurav for Sangrur and Meetu Agarwal for Patiala, have been appointed as the Expenditure Observers. CEO Sibin C stated that each appointed observer will play a crucial role in ensuring the fairness and transparency of the electoral process in their respective constituencies.

  • Deputy Commissioner UT Chandigarh Vinay Pratap Singh has asked Chief Engineer UT Chandigarh to construct boundary wall along the inter-state boundary with Punjab

    Chandigarh:  Deputy Commissioner UT Chandigarh Vinay Pratap Singh has asked Chief Engineer UT Chandigarh to construct boundary wall along the inter-state boundary with Punjab at Village Maloya to secure vacant acquired land of UT Administration from any encroachments and to avoid any misuse of the vacant acquired land for giving access to recently happened illegal constructions at village Jhampur in SAS Nagar, Punjab. During a recent survey of lands at UT Chandigarh, it was reported by revenue field staff of DC Office UT Chandigarh that an unauthorized kachha path had been created in acquired land of UT Administration adjoining Small Flats Colony at Maloya which was being used to give access to plotted colonies at village Jhampur, SAS Nagar (Mohali), Punjab. Based on the reports, directions have been issued to Engineering Department UT Chandigarh to construct boundary wall along the inter-state boundary to secure the acquired land of UT Administration. DC Chandigarh also wrote to DC SAS Nagar (Mohali) & CA-GMADA to get the plotted colonies examined for permission by competent licensing authorities of Govt of Punjab as the location falls in the controlled area under Punjab New Capital (Periphery) Control Act 1952.
