  • BIGGEST HEROIN SEIZURE OF 2024 IN PUNJAB: PUNJAB POLICE BUSTS INTERNATIONAL DRUG SYNDICATE; THREE MEMBERS HELD WITH 48KG HEROIN, ₹21 LAKH DRUG MONEY

JALANDHAR: Making the biggest heroin seizure of 2024, Commissionerate Police Jalandhar has busted an international drug syndicate with the arrest of its three members after recovering 48kg heroin and Rs 21 lakh drug money from their possession, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Monday. Those arrested have been identified as Satnam Singh alias Babbi, a native of village Dhandiyan in Nawanshahr and currently residing at Subhash Nagar in Hoshiarpur; his daughter Aman Rozi and his son-in-law Hardeep Singh. Apart from seizing heroin and drug money, Police teams have also impounded their three high-end cars including Toyota Innova, Mahindra XUV and Hyundai Verna, besides recovering one Cash Counting Machine from their possession. DGP Gaurav Yadav said that this drug syndicate, spread across five countries— Iran, Afghanistan, Turkey, Pakistan and Canada, was actively involved in trans-border and inter-state drug smuggling using their domestic network spanning two states— Gujarat and Jammu and Kashmir. He said that preliminary investigation has suggested that Gujarat’s sea route and J&K’s land route were used to push this heroin consignment into the territory of India. The DGP said that a Turkey-based heroin smuggler identified as Navpreet Singh alias Nav is the mastermind of this syndicate. Pertinently, Navpreet Nav was also involved in a 350 kg Heroin seizure by the Delhi Police Special Cell in 2021. “Further investigations are ongoing to uncover the forward and backward linkages in this case,” he said. Sharing more details, Commissioner of Police (CP) Jalandhar Swapan Sharma said that acting swiftly on a tip-off, a special naka was conducted near Y-Point Bhagat Singh Colony Bypass and during checking, a Toyota Innova car bearing registration number PB08-DS-2958 was signalled to stop. The driver identified as Satnam Singh alias Babbi attempted to flee from the spot but the police teams managed to apprehend him and upon search of his vehicle 8kg heroin concealed in a bag kept inside the vehicle was recovered, he added. The CP said that during questioning accused Satnam revealed the role of his daughter Aman Rozi in maintaining financial records and his son-in-law Hardeep Singh, who was handling the distribution of heroin across various districts, often using multiple vehicles for transportation. “Acting on this information, the police nabbed both suspects from the Nakodar Jalandhar road, and recovered a substantial quantity of 40kg heroin, Rs 21 lakh drug money, two vehicles and one cash counting machine from their possession,” he said. He said that further inquiry has revealed that while in Hoshiarpur Jail in a drug-related case in 2017, accused Satnam Singh had established connections with major drug kingpins and began ordering heroin in large quantities after securing bail. In 2023, Satnam’s son Manjit Singh was also arrested in connection with another drug case in Jammu, leading to the recovery of a significant amount of drugs, money, vehicles, and other assets.

  • Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, in his signature style, campaigned for Sangrur candidate Meet Hayer

Barnala: Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Sunday campaigned for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer in Sangrur Lok Sabha constituency. Mann addressed a huge public gathering in Barnala and appealed to the people to make Meet Hayer win by a huge margin. Addressing the people, Mann said that Sangrur is and will always be the capital of the Aam Aadmi Party. There is no doubt about it. He said that Arvind Kejriwal also deeply cares about Sangrur. He always asks me about Sangrur. Last time when I went to meet him in jail, he first asked about Sangrur. I told him that next time when I come to meet him, I will tell him the ground reality of Sangrur and today seeing the enthusiasm of the people here, it is clear that we are winning Sangrur by a huge margin. Now I can tell him the news of Sangrur's victory with confidence. He said that coincidentally today itself, his program to meet Kejriwal has also been fixed on the 30th. During the speech, Mann also attacked Akali Dal, BJP and Congress. He said that the three parties are not even able to find 13 candidates for the Lok Sabha seats. Their leaders are refusing to contest the elections because they know that their defeat is certain and their plight is the result of their misdeeds. He said that in the last two phases, voting was conducted on about 190 seats in the country. According to the report, the INDIA Alliance is getting about 120 to 125 seats. This time the INDIA Alliance government will be formed. The Aam Aadmi Party will be a partner in that government. The next government cannot be formed without the support of the Aam Aadmi Party. We will decide what kind of government the country will have. Then we will make Punjab the number-1 state of the country. Recounting his works, he said that in the last two years we have done many historic public welfare works in Punjab. We have made electricity free for 90 percent of the households of Punjab. Till now we have closed 14 toll plazas, due to which people are getting financial relief. The previous government used to extend the period of toll plazas by taking money. We created a road safety force for the safety of people on the road. Earlier in Punjab, 17 people used to die every day in road accidents. Whereas according to the report of February-March, this time only 33 people died in two months. Apart from this, we are also giving respect to the jawans of the police force. On their birthdays, we wish them a happy birthday through a letter addressed from the Chief Minister. This gives them and their families a lot of happiness and they also work more diligently. Apart from this, for the convenience of the farmers, we have arranged for 11 hours of uninterrupted electricity in the day, which has reduced their problems to a great extent and has also saved time. And we have earned about 90 crore rupees by selling electricity to many states. We also supplied canal water to about 60 percent of the area of Punjab to save electricity and groundwater. By October, this figure will increase to 70 percent. He thanked the farmers that they sowed other varieties of wheat instead of PUSA-44 adhering to his appeal. The previous Finance Minister Manpreet Badal used to say that the treasury is empty, while our government made record-breaking earnings in every field, so many works are being done with that money in Punjab - Meet Hayer This is the first government of Punjab which has done more work than what it promised during the elections - Meet Hayer Addressing the public meeting, AAP candidate Meet Hayer thanked Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and the party's national leadership. He said that it is a matter of great fortune for me that the party has expressed confidence in me for Sangrur Lok Sabha constituency, the most important seat of the Aam Aadmi Party. He said that this is the first government of Punjab which has done more work than what it promised during elections. For example, we closed toll plazas, created road safety force, giving ex-gratia of one crore rupees to the families of martyrs, purchased private thermal power plants etc. He said that the Finance Minister of the previous government Manpreet Badal always used to say that the treasury is empty. On the other hand, our government has made record-breaking earnings in every sector. That is why so many works are being done in Punjab. Earlier, in the sector where the government used to earn 5-6 percent, now in the Mann government, the same sectors are earning 13 to 14 percent and with this money, the government is doing public welfare works. This was possible because the Mann government is working honestly. No one can even question the intentions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
